Dr. Tim Murphy
Tim Murphy is a psychologist and national leader in mental health reform. He attended the University of Pittsburgh for his doctorate degree, Cleveland State University for his Master’s Degree and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from Wheeling Jesuit University. Dr. Murphy has been on the staff of a number of Pittsburgh area Hospitals and had his own private practice before becoming a Pennsylvania State Senator and then a Member of the US House of Representatives.
As a US Congressman he led the multiyear investigation into federal mental health policy and practice, culminating in his historic reform legislation “The Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis” signed into law by President Obama in DEC 2016.
While a Member of Congress Dr. Murphy joined the Navy Reserve and practiced as a Navy psychologist at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center at Bethesda on an inpatient unit treating Traumatic Brain Injury and Post Traumatic Stress, achieving the rank of Commander. His active duty assignments included time aboard aircraft carriers and with Navy Special Warfare.
